Exploring The World of Oils

£125.00

Sunday 9th June 2024

Delgatie Castle, Turriff

This is a one day course where I get to share some of the tips and tricks I’ve picked up along the way. If you already paint but use a different medium and would like to have a go with oils this is a great opportunity.

  • The course is limited to 6 people to give you the best possible experience on the day.

Exploring & Experimenting With Oils.

  • Get a feel for the consistency of traditional , water soluble oils and also oil and cold wax. Oil pastels and oil bars will also be available to experiment with and I will give you examples of how and when I use them in a painting.

  • Part of our exploration will focus on different surfaces as these are instrumental in dictating how the oil paint acts. You will work on oilpaper and canvas with Information given on how to prep surfaces to ensure the longevity of your painting

  • We will also look at different mark making tools and how they impact on the application of the paint.

  • Working on canvas and the oil paint of your choice we will work on a landscape/seascape painting. I will demonstrate how I go about a painting, from covering the blank surface to working on the sky and foreground and finishing off.

  • We will discuss the benefits of underpainting and take a brief look at colour and composition. If time allows I’ll discuss glazing and also how to mount small pieces so they remain stable and can be framed easily.

  • The afternoon will feature a session using oil and cold wax on oil

    paper.

  • All good fun with lots of new opportunities.

  • Refreshments will be provided throughout the day with morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea.

An email will be sent out one week before the course with further information.

I’m so looking forward to having you join us.
