There is nothing quite like being out in the great outdoors to fire up your creativity.
This workshop consists of a morning spent sketching the coast and an afternoon in the castle developing our ideas taking them from sketchbook to something more.
The workshop will be begin with us meeting at the Whitehills end of Banff beach. Once there you will be able to spend time just watching and noting the sea. You can observe the patterns, textures and shapes of the rocks and really discover the colours that are on the beach. You will be encouraged to connect with all your senses. Please bring along a sketchbook or paper and materials that you enjoy sketching with. I will also be bringing various media for us to share. I’ll do a quick introductory demo of the kinds of things I see, hear, feel and how I want to capture them. Then it’s time for you to find your spot and enjoy letting the marks appear. I’ll be circulating and discussing your ideas with you and I’ll be on hand to ask any questions.
I’ll provide a list of things to remember for outdoor sketching - a flask of coffee or tea is top of the list, I’ll bring the Flapjack.
11.30 will see us depart for a heat and well earned lunch at the Castle!
The afternoon session will begin with a quick look at what we have sketched and then I’ll demonstrate how I would take my sketch and work it into a larger more substantial piece.
All further media and materials will provided at the castle.There will be acrylics, inks, pens, oil pastels, intense sticks and more. I will have canvases and paper for your final piece.
All I can hope for is that the weather is kind to us, so please bear in mind it might be a wet and windy experience in the morning so come prepared.
(I’ll be asking you to channel your inner Joan Eardley who regularly painted in all weathers at Catterline 😊)

The course is limited to 6 people.
Refreshments of lunch and afternoon tea is included and provided by the Castle Team.

Where is the workshop being held?
The workshop will be held at Banff Beach and Delgatie Castle,Turriff, Aberdeenshire, AB53 5TD
Whitehills End of Banff Beach -Parking is close to where we will be working but you will need sturdy footwear to access the beach.
The Castle - Ground floor access - Please note this is a historic building with uneven floors and some steps to facilities.
What time should I arrive?
Attendees should arrive by 9.45am. This will give us time to meet and get organised before I begin demonstrating. We will be at the beach for approximately 1.5 hours
Are materials included?
Morning Session , please bring sketching material and sketchbook .
Materials for the afternoon session are included.
I will supply all paints, inks and surfaces for you to use .
Do you provide lunch and refreshments?
Yes, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided by the venue.
What should I wear ?
Please wear warm clothing for the morning session and have an apron or old clothes for the afternoon session. Sturdy boots would be a good idea too.
I will supply disposable gloves should you wish to wear them.

Cancellations
If I cancel:
If I have to cancel the course for any reason , you are welcome to transfer payments to a future date. Alternatively your payment will be refunded in full.
If you cancel :
If you have to cancel your booking it’s important you let me know as soon as possible.
If you cancel 2 weeks or more from the start date you will be refunded the full amount.
If you cancel less than 2 weeks before the start date I will do my best to fill your place and you will be refunded your payment minus £25 admin charge . If however I am unable to fill your space no refund will given. You are of course welcome to find someone to take your space but you must let me know and give me their contact details 4 days in advance of the course starting.
